The Decathlon Group, the French retail giant of sports and leisure products, opened their first Canadian store in 2018 and has since opened 10 stores across Canada. Their new regional offices and distribution center will provide increased warehouse and distribution capacity for their e-commerce and retail locations across Canada.
This project involved the renovation and restoration of a century-old manufacturing facility. First used to manufacture locomotives and build tanks for the Second World War, the building most recently was used to manufacture household appliances.
The 300,000 sq. ft. building was completely redesigned to current best in class standard. The concrete slabs were reinforced to an above-average thickness with a high ratio of steel fibers. As a result, the slab surfaces allow for the installation of Very Narrow Aisle Pallet Racking (VNA) and to accommodate sophisticated automated sorting systems. Extensive work was carried out to raise the warehouse heights as parts of the structure and roof were demolished and rebuilt at the same height as the rest of the building. The building’s windows were also updated and new electrical and mechanical systems were brought up to current industrial warehouse standards.
A new office component was integrated into this state-of-the-art facility.
