International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)
The International Civil Aviation Organization is a specialized agency of the United Nations responsible for codifying the principles and techniques of international air navigation and fostering the planning and development of international air transport to ensure safe and orderly growth.
When ICAO rebuilt its world headquarters, they mandated DIVCO with the project. The multilevel, 546,000 ft2 structure features two separate office towers connected by a stunning glass atrium, modern office facilities and underground parking.
The deadline was critical with this project, as significant penalties would have gone into effect had the project not been delivered on time. The project was delivered with a savings of $1.5 million -- completed under budget and on time, despite a very tight schedule.
DIVCO received the Award of Excellence from the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction for the excellent quality of its workmanship on this project.
The ICAO facility also received LEED-EB’s Gold Certification. This is the first existing building in Canada to receive this distinction.
